A large water amusement park, Adventure Island, and the Florida Aquarium attract water lovers.
Discover Port of Tampa
Tampa is one of the most underrated cities in America and has a lot to offer. It is the third largest city in the state of Florida after Jacksonville and Miami. If you are looking for beautiful beaches but don’t want to take in the noise of Miami, this is the place for you. Visitors can also enjoy a great amusement park, which is not as crowded as the Universal Studios in Orlando. Tampa also offers numerous cultural attractions and a variety of entertainment that attracts many visitors these days. Endless sunshine, rocking palm trees and fun await guests here on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Tampa is equipped with a large, modern cruise port, the Port Tampa Bay: The port (cruise terminal) is located in the south of Tampa on Tampa Bay and serves numerous large cruise ships as home ports and winter quarters. Many cruises start in Tampa, so the port has excellent parking.
The three cruise terminals at the harbor are just a ten-minute walk from the historic Ybor City district. The Channelside Bay Plaza shopping center with shops, restaurants, bars and cafes is right on the harbor. Just a few minutes’ walk from Tampa Harbor is The Florida Aquarium, one of Tampa’s top attractions. Tampa Airport can be reached in around 20 minutes by taxi.
A STROLL THROUGH Port of Tampa
From the harbor, you can either go on a discovery tour of Tampa on foot or take a city tour by bus or taxi. The architectural attractions of Tampa include the skyscrapers glistening in the sun, the magnificent university building from the 19th century and the characteristic Cuban district of Ybor City at the end of the 19th century, the famous cigar manufacturer Don Vicente Martinez Ybor moved his production from Cuba to Florida – and with him thousands of Cubans who built their homes here and brought Cuban traditions to Florida. Today Ybor City is still in Cuban hands and a stroll along Seventh Avenue almost seems like a stroll through Havana.
During your trip in Florida, you can also stroll along the Bayshore Boulevard, a promenade along Tampa Bay, which at 7.2 km is one of the longest walkways in the world. Tampa is also known for its modern museums: the Museum of Science and History, the Contemporary Art Museum belonging to the University of Tampa’s and the Tampa Museum of Art.
Visitors with children in Florida and Tampa cannot avoid visiting an amusement park. There are two parks in Tampa alone: Busch Gardens and Adventure Island Water Park. But Tampa cannot keep up with the city of Orlando, located about 130 km east of Tampa. Orlando is the capital of amusement parks: the theme parks of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld attract millions of visitors to Florida each year and make Orlando one of the most visited travel destinations in the United States. Use your trip to visit one of the parks and immerse yourself in the American world of amusement parks.
